Much Needed update

OK I know I said Id try to post more often but as you will see below..I have been swamped.. this is good though! in this economy Im very very lucky that I have clients who like my work enough to give me their hard earned money and I very very much appreciate it.. Id Like to say THANK YOU ! t you all, you all know who you are...

Besides commissions I am also trying to work on my own sculptures and some pieces that are for charity. I did this years Show for the cure medallion again and it seems everyone had really liked this years piece and I asked some very good artists to paint some of them for auction and fortunately they all said yes.. I thank them also..  so far they have made almost $600.00 for the cancer chairty for the show.

Speaking of doing pieces for shows, I had an idea when I was asked agian to donate to a show I usually donate a piece to every year and the chairty for that show is a cat rescue. Well Im a leo and a big cat lover.. I have had cats most all my life even thought I am allergic! lol  But...somehow I have ended up with 3 dogs who I love and they keep me company all day so I never get lonely. I did have 3 cats but I had to leave them in Arizona with my X as my new place here in Washington was too small for them and the dogs.  I know they will be taken care of and they are all pretty old so moving again across country wouldn't be so good for them anyways. I do miss them though!.. so.. Im now catless..  Anyway, when asked if I would dontate to the show again this year..I said yes but..I had a thought... for next year I was thinking it would be nice to do a cat tile... I just sculpted a dog (which I'll tell you all about below) but now a cat would be fun! I get to sculpt fur which is much different than doing a horses coat..and is fun too!  so maybe in 2010 look for a cat tile! we will see. If the show can afford to cast them..I will not be doing that for charity pieces myself anymore.. I just dont have time to make a mold and cast peices I donate.. this was the last year for that! takes up too much time and I think doing the sculpture is enough. So... as you can see below I have been super busy, which really was hard when this past week I was very ill and wasnt able to work until today.  Im ok now and back to work ....I just don't ever want to be that ill again.. ( meaning in extreme pain that stopped me in my tracks! and sent me to the hospital late tuesday night) It was all something that could have been avoided, but thanks to my doctors inept office staff and lack of compassion and common sense, I went thru 3 days of sheer hell... .. anyways! whats going on.... .

This is a remake on my mule medallion "One in a Million" which is still for sale for $40.00 each plus shipping. I changed the mare into a horse instead of a mule mare. Its special for someone who lost a young mule. its done now but Im working on one more for the client...  Ok Below... this is Dontay, He is an elkhound cross.. and really just a puppy.. not even a year old yet and he a is huge pony size guy! He belongs to our boarders who found him in the middle of the road one dark cold late january night. They almost ran over him! but were able to stop in time...He was starving and had mange and  so after looking around for a house and not finding one.. they took him home and to the vet the next day who treated his mange. Then one day a month or so ago as they were here cleaning pastures and noticed him limping .. so off to the vet again as he seemed in alot of pain... and sadly they found out he had grown too fast and now needs surgery in both front elbows! His joints are all worn off  and kind of squared looking and the sockets are actually cracking.( I have copies of his exrays here and they are scary looking, you can see the cracks in the joints..  )  Poor guy is on pain meds  just so he can walk, and they cost alot of money too. The bad thing is the surgery was going to be $7000.00! now both of these young kids ( 20 and 23) are out of work right now.. they both lost their jobs last fall and haven't been able to find more work. The horse they have here ( who was a rescue) we let them work off his board and in the mean time they are looking for a new home for him, so a giant vet bill sure was not   happy news.. but.. it has to be done and putting him down is not an option as they have fallen in love with him.. he is such a happy boy! so after making some calls they have found out the washington State University in Pullman who is a vet collage and has a vet hospital will do it for $2000.00.  His surgery is scheduled for the 30th of this month. So to help them out I said id do a sculpt of Dontay and give them half the proceeds to his surgery costs.( I would have liked to do 100% but I just can not afford to right now.)  I worked like a crazy woman and got it done in record time and im now making his mold. After I get the mold rubber next week I should be casting the day after its done. The sculpt is made to fit a traditional size resin horse or breyer and will cost about $60.00 each plus shipping. Or if you cant afford one and would just like to donate to his surgery costs just let me know. I set up a paypal account for them so they can take credit cards and to make it easier to accept money for him. You can email me if you want to purchase one or donate at becky@solticeart.com
Below are the pics of him almost done and in half the mold clay-up which is almost done in that photo.

DONTAY

Here is the pic of some of the pieces I am painting or remaking...
This is one of my welara mares I did for Resins by Randys line of resins. She is one of the resins that half the proceeds go to the "Blessed are the Broodmares " . This is the 1st one Im painting and she is a chestnut flaxen sabino.. she's not done yet but getting there.. she is also for sale! If your interested email me..im open for offers right now.
Some of the detail wit lots more to go.
This is one of Michelle Platts mule resin I am painting to a bay for her.. he is almost done.. Still need to do his black points, mane and tail and his eyes and hooves, Oh and his muzzel.
Here is the remake in progress im doing on this years Cure medallion. Im doing this because so many people wanted one... I hope they still do! Im putting his head in a collar as a frame... its not meant to fit him like it would if he were wearing it,  but to frame his head. Im also changing his mane and forelock some to make them more different. He will be $40.00 each when he is done. I wont release him though until after this years show in a week or so.
This is my mean pony mare. Im close to finishing her and will be trying to get her and her foal done very soon. I have another mare that goes with them and Im not sure yet if I will release them all at once or one at a time. well see ... but she still has a little more work to go. I put her next to one of Sara MB's vixens so you can see her size.

This is one of Sommer Prossers classic size Morgans she did for Breyer I am remaking for her... still a ways to go on him ...
This is a remake im working on of a Sara Rose Mindy I am remaking into a morgan stallion. I think Im keeping him so he will be unfinished for while!
And last this is a piece I just finished for a client in Australia. its a Akal Teke resin done by an artist in Germany. Her name escapes me, but I think the resins name is ekemen or something close to that.. I did some small changes on him. I added some weight to him in places and added more mane, tail and forlock and I moved his back foot so its in a base instead on having him on the pole in his belly. He is a really pretty buttermilk Buckskin and has some real shimmery color. He has been shipped off to his owner. I hope she likes him.. he was a pain to do ! lol... the color not the remaking.
It seemed everytime I turned around there was a dark mark on him!
about drove me nuts! ... he did turn out very pretty though.
So thats its for now.. as you can see I am very busy but I will try and post updates and I will post when I have anything done and ready for sale or painted.
Oh I think all of theses pics are clickable and get larger if you click them.
