I hear of 2 new ones I haven't had time to ck out yet but will do so in the near future. ok sculpting news: The pony foal is still not done. Yes I think sumer is here. It's 84 degrees out and its only the beginning of june! for here thats hot! way to hot for me.... but before it got too hot I got my little raised bed veggie garden in and some flowers in the flower boxes and even a few lilacs and a climbing rose planted. Should be really pretty once they all grow up.. and the veggie garden is really growing well.... below is a picture of the raised bed.. yep those are actual logs from a tree that fell down a year or so ago.. rick cut it up and used it to wall my garden in. hey it works! lol..
Ok the sumer sale! its only for one week starting today and ends on the june 8th. All medallions are $5.00 off which makes them $35.00 not $40.00 and my new pony resin "Gypsy" is $8.00 off! which would be $60.00 not $68.00 this doesn't include shipping.. which is $5.00 for priority or $2.50 for 1st class for up to 2 medallions or 3 ponies ( US postage not international , for those email me for costs) Also, if you would like a copy of any resin and want it to be painted by me..I can do that also! just let me know and I'll quote you a price.. below are some pictures of a gypsy resin being painted a silver dapple pinto Im working on for a client.. its far from done but you get the idea of how cute she is painted.. I just had to add some of the facial details ( also not done) to see what it would look like..I usually wait until I have the body first..lol... and she is lots of fun to paint all those facial details!
Im working on her foal also so I'll have some new pics of him soon!

Gypsy Ponies are now released officially and shipping
Gypsy Ponies are ready to go!
I ended up making a 3rd mold and it came out prefect. The other mold had a small problem..... once I poured the resin and it was cured and hard, the pony was getting locked into the mold so to take it out I had to really twist and this caused the mold to tear some but I figured out a way around this and were good to go! I am really learning so much about mold making with every one I do and these last casting are really nice.. the best I have ever done in fact. The detail really doesn't show well in the white resin but iM working on one right now and should have her painted soon..I'll post her as son as I do. In the mean time to see the detail scroll down to the wax original... yes this detail came out in the resin. Any small holes will be filled and all sprues removed before shipping. She is $68.00 with $5.00 shipping. email me at becky@solticeart.com if you'd like one. Im also giving a discount for any orders over 4 ponies. You'll save 20.00 if you order 4 at one time. shipping is still $5.00 for up to 4 ponies. Im working on the foal slowly and hope to have her ready soon.. I'll post here with updates . Now I have 7 ponies all cast and ready to ship out monday morning so.. first come first served! Have a great weekend everyone!

7 little ponies all in a row
Success! well...... kind of. I was able to cast a bunch of ponies over the weekend but I ran into a problem with the mold so the official release will be delayed a week at the most. When I made the mold I made it very similar to the waste mold, ( which turned out really good for waste mold!) but I did change a few things.. one was how I vented the legs. I put little wax sprues ( wax rods) on each hoof to vent off air so the feet don't end up hollow or full of air bubbles ( although I still may get a small on on a hoof tip now and then because I don't have a vacuum chamber to suck out all air bubbles) And because I moved where the sprues ended up at form where they were on the other mold, (in this case one of them attached to the pour hole) It made a deeper undercut for the bent front leg. Because of that deeper undercut, getting the pony out of the mold is a pain in the butt.. I have to be very careful and kind of wiggle the back out while trying not to break that front leg and becuse of that the mold will eventually rip or tear there and I wont get as many casting from it as I planned.. SO... because of this I took a better look at both molds and saw what I did wrong and decided to make a 2nd mold. I can still use the 1st one but wont cast many from it because of the breakage and tearing problem. I do have this new rubber glue that is made just for silicone rubber so I'll get to try it out! So....I ordered more rubber and its on its way, so as soon as the new mold is done I will make an official announcement releasing the edition for sale. In the meantime if anyone still wants a pony for the discount pre release price I will still be honoring that.. so you still have time to get one cheaper. The only difference is the ones that are raw wont be quite as raw as I planned... because of the mold problem I will cut the sprues off and be fixing one other little problem.. the vent between the back leg and the tail I realized some may not realize its a vent and may think its part of the tail.. another ting Ill be fixing on the new mold.. so I'll be cutting that off and will fill any air holes if it has any. I have gotten a few really small ones on the belly or the upper lip on one side and sometimes a tiny hole on the tip of a hoof.... I just want to make sure they are filled and fixed correctly so as to keep the quality of the sculpture with all the details intact. I will be shipping most if not all the 1st batch of orders tomorrow.
Because of all this prepping and having to do some yard work. and horse stuff I haven't had any time to work on the foal but I'll try and get some work done on him this week. He is very close to being done its just that he is so small I cant work on him for for very long before it gives me a sore neck and a headache! lol I cant wait for him to be done so I can paint him up.. he is so darn cute!

Introducing cantankerous ponies!!!
Pony number one of my new "Cantankerous Ponies" series is now available for order. "Gypsy" is her name and she is 2 3/4 inches tall and 3 1/4th inches long.
Her waste mold came out really well, so well in fact that If I just add two more vents to it I will be able to do the production mold and all her castings here. so.. I will be starting her mold tomorrow and she should be casting by sometime next week. Until then... Im taking orders for her and anyone who pays in full before I cast her gets a discount. She is ( until casting, then her price will go up) $68.00 each and $58.00 each for a raw castings. postage is included except for foreign orders in that case email me with where you are and how you want her shipped.. ( priority mail or 1st class) Also they must be paypal orders only.
To order paypal me at Becky@solticeart.com and in the subject heading write Gypsy order. make sure your address is included and correct.
Orders will be sipped in the order they are received with raw casting being sent faster since I don't have to clean them up.
Gypsy also has a new born foal who is almost done and hopefully will be ready for his waste mold in the next few weeks. He will only be around $35.00 each so watch for him! he also needs a name... ideas welcome! email them or post a comment... If I find a name I really like I will give you a free foal if you have purchased his mom!
This is her waste mold.. it came out prefect..so Im either getting alot better at mold making or got really lucky! lol the only problem I had was a few small air bubbles on the bottom or top lip, which I can fix by adding a vent from there to the shoulder and I had a problem with her back hoof.. it wasn't casting. There were two problems with that.. one was it was next to the pour hole which I put on the bottom of the tail since it was a larger surface area and was flat.... than the belly and I hate using the belly.. and the belly area was so small.. and the resin wasn't getting to the hoof area because it is so high up... .so I fixed it by doing two things.
One is I cut a hole between the hoof and the tail you can see it in the last photo... and I start by pouring a small amount of resin in the mild and then turn it back and get it to go into the hoof, then I swish it around some and pour the rest of the resin in.. I have to do this all really fast because the resin cures in a few minuets! ..but after only 2 try's after I cut the hole... I got an almost prefect casting.. so I plan on adding in the vet to the production casting so it should work out really well. Every time I make a mold I learn something new.. mostly what not to do! lol anyways..
Cantankerous ponies! I plan a whole herd of them! not only a foal for Gypsy but I have a mare that she is scaring off off her new foal.. Im working on a little stallion right now and I plan on at least 3 foals, 2 yearlings and 4 mares.. and 2 stallions.. so it should be lots of fun! Watch out here for any new news on the next pony in the series...
Yeah! finally a good mold and the original came out with very little damage..
Another view of the 2 pice mold... the long tube like bumps around it are keys.. Im finding that long keys like this work alot better than little half ball keys... they really lock it in there tight.. and very little flashing below ( where the resin leaks out around the sculpture) ..you can see it under the tummy some.. and at the behind the tail a little but thats it! yeah!!! I hate lots of flashing! lol
Hole cut next to the bottom of the tail to vent the foot...so resin will flow into it in 2 places and air bubble wont get stuck n the end....

Pony mold and more!
Yep here she is all clayed up and ready to go!
Pony number one is finally getting its waste mold made today! yeah!
And Im going to experiment with the pour hoe in the tail instead of the belly..I hope it works!!! if not no biggy.. if I do make the production molds I'll make the pour hole in the belly if I cant get the resin in the mold this way.. but the tail base is as big as the belly is so it should work. The reason I used the cardboard instead of my new mold frame is I wanted to use the least amount of rubber as I could get way with.. and since its only a waste mold it should be ok.. I will only be casting one or two of them anyways ... if it was a production mold Id use the frame and make a mother mold with plasti paste..( I may still do that..well see)
This is the Silicone rubber I have been waiting for and it came this morning. ( I love smooth-ons products!) I hate when I have to buy the small sample packs though like the one above...but I just cant afford the larger buckets right now, so this should be enough to do the molds for the ponies.. at least the mare and foal. The 3rd pony which isnt close to done may have to wait.. I had wanted to release them all at one time but I think I will wait on her now.. at least for a month or two...
The foal is so small Im thinking I may just cast it how it is and finish working on the details in the resin.. its so small that its getting too soft when I work on it for me to get the tiny details. Usually the wax holds it shape really week and I can get tons of details like I did fore the mare but he is just so tiny.. he gets sooo warm when I hold him..so. I think tonight I'll just clay him up and make him a resin baby that doesn't get too soft, and I like working with epoxy .. the mare doesn't have alot to do to her but a few things I just wanted to do when she was in resin.. its hard working on theses guys when they are so darn tiny.. the wax tends to get warm and I like to hold what Im working on.. and with a lamp or two and the heat from my hands... well they get a little warmer than Id like.
Also in the works are two resins I have been waiting to paint.. well ok one I HAVE painted 3 times now..( the valor I also remade some) well started to paint 3 times now I should say, but I could not get the right shade of color..but I think I finally have it.. so have been working on the white now which means many many coats or watery white .... I spent almost all day yesterday painting white spots.. kinda boring really but I got to catch up on all my evening tv shows I usually tape on my DVR ..I like to read at night if Im not working so I tape the shows and watch them during the day while I work, unless Im working on something that I just need so much attention I cant look up now and then... like tiny sculptures! lol so painting means I get to watch or really its mostly listening to my evening tv shows.. you know I love lost but haven't watched it in months! I have them all taped thought and when its rerun season.. I have lots of shows to watch!
Ok the other horse ( above) is one of Paul Sanders historical resins he did for Katja in Germany. Im painting this one for her and he is in oils.. I had actually started him in acrylics but it just didn't feel right so I sat him down and looked at him for awhile and then I saw some horses done by Carol Huddelson ( http://amodelcitizen.blogspot.com/) and one by someone else which I cant remember who it was now.. but they were done in oils and I love the look ( and she is such a good painter) .... and I though... yep.. he needs to be done in oils!.. I had actually started to paint in oils a few years ago right before I moved and just never got them out again, and with so many pieces to paint I opted for pastels and acrylics to get them done faster.. oils take a while to dry even using liquin to speed up drying.. but I love the look I get so I may just start doing more pieces in oils .. so.. I'll post some resin ponies soon!
OH! Also I still have that painted medallion (2 post down...) for sale and im entertaining offers! so dont be afraid to give me an offer..... you might be surprised!
